What's the one thing worst than procrastination? Never finishing at all.
If you're like me, you have at least one grand scheme that you've never completed. You wanted to open your own internet business or you had a prototype for a great product or you planned to change career paths or you wanted to join the peace corps or, well, something. Or maybe something even more important to your day-to-day life - you wanted to lose 20 pounds, spend more time with your kids or go back to school to get that long hoped-for degree.
So what happened? Why didn't you open your own business or lose that 20 pounds? What happened to your big plans to go back to school for your computer science degree and take Google by storm?
You may have even started on your plans. You may have researched internet marketing and how to get your own domain name. You may have compared schools to see which program was best for you. You may have even STARTED a diet, but decided it didn't work for you.
But you never finished.
It's really sad, you know. It's sad because you've given up on the very thing that could possibly make your life better, lead to new career opportunities or develop you as a person. A dream on the back-burner is just that - a dream. You need to make that dream a reality.
And in order to do that you must FINISH what you have begun.
At this point, it doesn't even matter whether or not you achieve greatness in carrying out this feat. At this point, it's about being a person of your word, having what it takes to make things happen and being willing and open-minded enough to try something new.
Here's a good question to ask yourself: Why are you even here on earth if your life is simply about routine - which involves paying the bills and waiting until the great, inevitable end? You may not think about your life that way, but if you're only working to pay the mortgage, you find no joy or excitement in your life and your dreams are firmly on the back-burner, what then is life about for you?
Because, to my way of thinking, if you are not willing to take a well thought-out risk to achieve something that is so important to you, why even exist here at all?
You'll never find success if you can't finish anything. And let me add that you probably won't find happiness, peace of mind, fulfillment or satisfaction either.
So get started on whatever your 'grand scheme' is today. No matter how foolish it might seem to anyone else, it's worth it to began investigating how to see it through for your own peace of mind.
Make a plan, give it some carefully reasoned out thought, do your research and then do what you need to do to make it happen.
Make your life about more than deferred dreams. Make your dreams a reality :)
